THE
CAFE COLLABORATIVE...
Several people who have connections to The World Café have each been developing plans to host Cafés in January. None of them knew about the others until just a few weeks ago when the connections began to emerge through the conversations in our network. As a result of this awareness we have formed a "Café Collaborative" to collaborate on the design of these individual initiatives.
THE
CAFE
PRINCIPLES...
We have identified Six Principles that will form the heart of many of these events.

1. Create Hospitable Space.

2. Explore Questions That Matter.

3. Connect Diverse People and Ideas.

4. Encourage Each Person's Contribution.

5. Listen Together for Patterns, Insights and Deeper Questions.

6. Make Collective Knowledge Visible.

THE
CONVERSATION CAFES IN SEATTLE:
The week of 13 to 19 January has been designated as Conversation Week in Seattle by  The New Road Map Foundation . The week will include a series of Conversation Cafés open to anyone who would like to talk about what is important to them
Conversation Cafés are lively, hosted, drop-in conversations among diverse people about our feelings, thoughts and actions in this complex, changing world. The simple structure of Conversation Cafes and their spirit of respect, curiosity and warm welcome help people shift from small talk to BIG talk. Though the format can be used anywhere in churches, around the dinner table, in schools, in retirement communities, at workplaces Conversation Cafés focus on real public Cafés because this allows for the spontaneity and inclusivity that can surprise us into new insights and greater understanding.

Conversation Cafés are unique because the hosts are not distant facilitators but rather active conversants. They are unique because they foster inquiry rather than debate hearts and minds are both welcome. And they are unique because there is great freedom for the participants. Everyone is welcome. There's nothing to join. Anyone can come, just once or many times. There are no books to read, no assignments, no ideologies and no dues (except a bite to eat at the Café). They may facilitate connections that birth projects, but their purpose is to serve simply as a cauldron where everyone can deepen and broader their points of view.

THE
WORLD
CAFE...
The World Café Pioneers, a group of close to 100 people who have been involved in the evolution of The World Café over the past five years. Several of these folks have stated their willingness to serve as advisors to potential Café organizers/hosts. For a list of contacts world-wide, please feel free to contact  The World Cafe  or Commons and Conversation Cafes
FROM
THE
FOUR
DIRECTIONS...
Our friends at From The Four Directions, are likewise encouraging their circle groups to engage these questions during the month of January. While the format of the groups is not a Café per se, they will use both the principles and the questions in their circles. To locate a Four Directions group near you, click here:  From the Four Directions
MEXICO
